I just can't believe it - Starting with a total balance of $705.86 a week ago, after my making $564.30 in withdrawals and debits, the USbank charged me for SEVEN overdrafts!
That's seven charges of $31 each, equalling $217. As far as I can see I wouldn't have incurred any overdrafts at all if not for their unjustified deductions. Now I have to take time to go in to the bank and see if I can straighten this out.
If I weren't in such good spirits from several nights of parties and carolling I would taking this much harder.

A question - did you make a deposit that wasn't credited immediately to your account and then post some debits that were counting on that money?
I thought of that, but it looks like there should still have been enough money to cover at least the first couple items that incurred overdrafts. I had made a $188 deposit on the 10th, and the first overdrafts listed on the 13th. I went to the bank and confirmed that much with a teller before going to a banker to go into things in more detail.
The banker refused to discuss anything with me because the Dept. of Motor Vehicles still hasn't sent my new license (retook test and paid for it back in January of this year). I called them and they claim I still owe money on a traffic ticket, which I am sure I paid. The banker refused my old picture ID with the yellow slip showing the new license is authorized - as if that made a difference to the fact that I am who I am. Let's all switch to a barter economy, eh?
How frustrating! Maybe your Social Security card would be enough for US Bank to talk with you at least.
I think the rule is a 'valid picture ID' - and at this point I need a cooling off period anyhow; I don't trust myself to be civil if I have to talk to the same man again. Per elisem's comment below, I'm not the only one who's had problems with this bank.

USbank is notorious for doing things like this. That's why we no longer have any accounts there. It took me being very stubborn with a manager to get things finally wrapped up. Some of the front-line staff are nice, but they're laboring under difficult rules which seem to have been written to be customer-hostile.
Good luck.
Do you have a receipt for the traffic ticket payment? If so, that ought to shake the DMV loose. If not, it might be cheaper just to pay the amount and get a license; of course, that depends on the amount. (Yeah, it would be unfair, but sometimes it's cheaper to pay for something twice, alas. Sounds like it's already cost you a bunch, in this instance.)
Thanks. The fine was about a year ago; it will probably be easier, albeit painful, to just pay again rather than try to dig out a record of it.
Can you recommend a bank that doesn't put its customers through this sort of thing? It's a huge hassle to change but I'm about ready - though I still like the idea of switching to barter or some other alternative form of economy and leaving banks per se in the dust. (My 'mad' talking.)

Bremer's pretty good mostly. Am trying to remember what Riverside Bank turned into, because they're pretty good mostly too. Possibly more so than Bremer, even.
Thanks! I'll have to look into that.

They seem nice and I've never had any trouble with them, but I don't think I've ever needed anything complicated.

Thanks! On consideration, I don't know if which bank I use will make a difference. Bounced checks are probably inevitable when one's finances walk as fine an edge as mine. |
